Finally started getting some more videos uploaded to Facebook. ;D
Shaoxing: Videos taken during the time of the Demo from Hell (TM).
Video 1 - we're in the car, the kids are insane, and Hallen tries desperately to convince us she's actually going to do better than last place in her video game. Which, for the record, has never, and will never happen. :D
Video 2 - on the pedicab with Happy! Happy is always fun to chat with, especially when you're being cycled around town.
Video 3 - some people asked to see examples of classroom games, so I used my Qingpu kids. I've seen these guys for exactly 8 weeks - that is, 8 days, since I only see them on Saturday mornings, meaning they haven't been with me for a long time, are still shy, and don't get much practice. I thought this might be a more accurate portrayal of teaching, instead of using my 5's and 4's whom I've been with for YEARS.
This would be why the kids are not smiling and laughing like usual - why they look terrified, is because I have the camera on them, which means any mistakes they make are caught, and so they are nervous about being perfect.
Anyway, in this video, they are practicing pronouns. There are no pronouns in Chinese - if it's not me (Wo), or you (ni) then it's 'ta' (he, she, they, it). They also like to drop the 'a' in their sentences, same with 'the' or 'to'. I.E, in a sentence, I am a boy,' they're first instinct is to say 'I am boy'. Same with 'that is dog,' or 'this is book', or 'I go school'. Sp, we practice. A LOT.
Video 4: This and That.
Video 5 - We started using RR's to do 'these' and 'those'. This is the second week they learned body parts - hand was easy, they're used to me saying 'raise your hand', but fingers was a bit tricky for them. This is the first time to try 'fingers' without me walking them through it person by person. Candy, the little girl in the beginning, is actually only 6 years old, not 8 like the others, so she needs more help than anyone. But she's doing very well. I have to get more video of her to show the contrast between now and when this video was shot nearly 4 weeks ago.
(Video to be posted shortly)
